The Prius posted 11,775 units, up 49.8%. Sales of the Escape and Mariner hybrids totalled 1,157 units in December, an increase of 0.7%, representing 5.2% of all Escape and Mariner sales. Total Escape and Mariner sales increased 56%, propelled by a 74.7% increase in Escape sales to 19,156 units. over December 2008.

The Prius posted September sales of 10,984 units, up 1% from September 2008, but down 42% from August 2009. Hybrid gains were largely due to an increase in Prius sales (up 29.7% GM dealers delivered 189,443 total vehicles in July, a 19.4% Ford Escape sales totaled 20,241, a July record and up 94% versus a year ago, and Mercury Mariner sales were up 71%. Hybrids had an especially good month, with reported sales jumping 31.8%
