After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. The Saturn came up a distant second, but everyone agreed that the Civic was the best. Damn the torpedoes. Here we go.

The conversion process has started and the Civic is out of commission and up on jack stands. The electric 914 has been relegated to the driveway until the conversion is done or at least until I roll that sucker out of the garage. Classic Red 914 AC vs. Modern Blue Civic DC conversion! Today was loads of fun. It's an EV faceoff!

First was a document with a few warnings and guidelines. The motor comes ready for CCW rotation which is good for most vehicles, except Honda as they run in CW rotation. After unpacking the motor I found a few things that EV America put in there for me. I contacted EV America and they gave me a walk through on changing the motor.

I'm thinking of making some modifications though now that I see how reliable the conversion itself is. As always, anything I do I'll document and share with you. I don't know how many miles I have left before at least one cell can't make it and possibly gets ruined to get me here.

Okay, this is an attempt to document the process I used to remove the Honda Civic engine with manual transmission for conversion to an electric vehicle. There will probably be several edits, so bear with me. One thing that helped immensely in this process was getting the engine compartment steam cleaned beforehand.
