The software upgrade represents the first time Polestar has applied its tuning heritage to its own electric cars. It has already seen enthusiastic pick-up from Polestar 2 owners—more than 400 upgrades have been downloaded in its first weeks of availability since late November.

GE Energy’s Industrial Solutions business unveiled the new WattStation and WattStation Connect software at the SAE 2012 World Congress in Detroit, Mich. Electric cars elicited the fourth highest percentage of favorable responses (55% in 2011, down from 62% in 2009) among the 13 topics covered in the survey. Similarly, younger consumers held a more positive view of electric cars (61% for those under 30) than older consumers (46% for those old than 65).

Together with electric car manufacturer StreetScooter, Siemens’ Corporate Technology, global research unit equipped a series production vehicle with RACE technology. The component can be used after downloading the new software onto one of the control processors. The use of RACE is not, however, restricted to cars.
