While DOE does not develop codes and standards, it funds R&D that provides the data and information that validates and enables appropriate codes and standards development. It also provides market development support, such as hosting webinars, sponsoring conferences, etc. BMW-Toyota, Daimler-Ford-Nissan, and Honda-GM.

The US DOT’s is preparing NHTSA for a decision in 2013 that will determine whether the agency proceeds with regulatory activities that could require DSRC technology on new vehicles, consumer information programs that help new car buyers understand the effectiveness of this technology, or the need for further research and development.
