A new briefing paper from Imperial College London estimates that in 2021, 52% of all small particle pollution from road transport came from tires and brakes. Six million tonnes of tire wear particles (TWP) are released globally each year, and in London alone, 2.6 They are small enough to reach into the deep lung.

Exposure to air pollution on city streets is enough to counter the beneficial health effects of exercise in adults over 60, according to new research led by Imperial College London and Duke University. By comparison, a walk along Oxford Street led to only a small increase in lung capacity in participants, far lower than recorded in the park.

A new study by researchers from Imperial College London(ICL) of 39 new Euro 6 diesel passenger cars has found “ huge variability ” in the on-road NO x emissions of Euro 6 diesel passenger cars, with results ranging from 1 to 22 times the type approval limit.
