It’s the 2nd biggest product Exxon/Mobil and their pals in the oil, coal and gas industries pump out. I think the hefty carbon tax we’ll be levying on Exxon/Mobil can pay for the whole thing. But its monumentally less pollution , even on the national (half-coal) grid. Toyota has had a battery recycling program since 1998 and even offers dealers a $200 bounty to ensure batteries arent just thrown away (described at end of linked document). Better yet, make a tax-deductible contribution. What about battery safety?

Kwong said Toyota is concerned PHEVs might just replace gas problems with more coal emissions, since the cars will require more electricity from utilities. Kwong asked.
