Australia finally gets a petrol-electric hybrid 4×4 dual-cab ute mid-year when the GWM Cannon Alpha launches. More seriously, BYD is expected to introduce the first plug-in electric ute to Australia before the end of 2024 while the PHEV Ranger arrives in 2025. The Raptor puts out 292kW/583Nm from its V6 turbo-petrol engine.

All of the overall auto market’s 9% YoY volume growth came from growth in plugins, leaving combined plugless vehicles with a volume drop, albeit with some shift in weighting from diesel to petrol. The BYD Atto 3 saw its highest volume since the initial big splash in December, with 302 units in June, and 11th place.
