Total US sales of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs)—battery electric and plug-in hybrid electric—have increased in recent years, but still represent only about 0.7% of new vehicle sales in 2014 so far, up from 0.6% sales and use tax. However, the incentive does not apply to the purchase of PHEVs.

And I’m one those million since they’re counting plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) as well as full battery electrics. I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. Toyota Prius Prime PHEV – 14,275.

I f there is any doubt that GM is serious about PHEVs, here is one more story that indicates that they are indeed very serious. could reportedly produce up to 60,000 Volt electric cars in 2010 , its first anticipated year on the market. That would make the Volt its best selling high mileage car behind the Chevrolet Aveo.
