American shipbuilding company Vigor Fab LLC has selected ABB as the hybrid-electric propulsion and energy storage system provider for the newest additions to the Washington State Ferry fleet—the largest US ferry system. The first hybrid-electric Olympic Class ferry will join Washington State Ferries’ fleet in 2024.

The Mondeo Energi, to be launched in early 2018, will be the first plug-in hybrid to be manufactured by the Changan Ford JV. Changan Ford will start manufacturing the Mondeo Energi plug-in hybrid in Chongqing in early 2018. If the battery of the Mondeo Energi is running low, it can easily be charged at home or the office.

Volkswagen unveiled the Golf Sportwagen HyMotion hydrogen fuel cell hybrid research vehicle demonstrator yesterday at the Los Angeles Auto Show ( earlier post ). The 100 kW fuel cell system (also applied in the A7) has a system power of 100 kW. The fuel cell and battery power an electric motor adapted from the e-Golf.

Mercedes-Benz is going all-electric starting in 2025, with plans to launch three electric-only architectures that year and install over 200 Gigawatt hours of battery cell capacity across eight factories. However, any newly launched architectures will be electric-only starting in 2025, the company said.

A second Nissan exec said the small pick-up wouldn’t be a rival for battery-powered trucks like the Rivian or the incoming Tesla Cybertruck. Instead, the zero-emission Nissan utility would have price tag of less than US$40,000 ($A63,000) positioning itself as one of the more affordable all-electric pick-up trucks in the segment.
