At the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volvo Car Corporation will unveil the Volvo XC60 gasoline-electric Plug-in Hybrid Concept. The car is powered by a Drive-E four-cylinder 2–liter gasoline engine, linked to rear-axle drive 50 kW electric motor, powered by an energy-optimized 11.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The S60L T6 Twin Engine also delivers a full 53 km (33 km) of all-electric range. The car also has a fuel-powered heater.

The UK automotive industry warned that the current anti-diesel agenda combined with the ongoing slow take-up of electric vehicles could mean industry misses its next round of CO 2 targets in 2021, with negative consequences for the UK’s own climate change goals. For pure battery-powered vehicles, take-up is even lower (0.5%).

The new PHEV Outlander will be a permanent 4WD electric vehicle, supplemented by a gasoline engine when needed. Depending on power consumption and remaining battery charge, the system will start the gasoline engine automatically as a generator (Series Mode). 1 compression ratio.

The Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe models—introduced last year in Geneva—began arriving in Europe this summer. The introduction of electric vehicles on a large scale in the UK can only have a beneficial effect on CO 2 emissions if low-carbon electricity, universal broadband provision and smart grids are in place to support the transition, according to a new report published by the UK Royal Academy of Engineering.
