When hybrids appeared most used nickel-metal-hydride batteries This question was such a big roadblock for increasing sales that Toyota began an advertising campaign for the Prius that clearly emphasized that plugging in was not necessary.

Mercedes-Benz Australia is hitting the brakes on PHEV – plug-in hybrid electric vehicle – sales. The second-generation GLC is due to go on sale here from March next year, beginning with the hybrid 300 version. Larger battery packs mean they’re good for 100km-plus of real-world driving using only battery power.

While nearly one-third (32%) report they are familiar, or very familiar, with hybrid vehicles, only about one-quarter are familiar with electric-powered vehicles (25%). Those consumers who are open to buying an electric vehicle cite the positive environmental impact and potential cost savings as primary reasons to do so.
