When a spark plug is used for ignition, the combustion has to spread out from the initial spark, resulting in a slower combustion speed.

No less an auto industry titan as Ford has also made bidirectional charging a selling point of their F-150 Lightning electric truck, reportedly slated to roll off the lines this year. A side benefit could be plugging in appliances to the car while camping rough. Cleaner power—and energy sourcing—is a more pressing concern.

In a pre-response to that speech, having successfully advocated for plug-in hybrids like the forthcoming Chevy Volt, we propose that the President follow that speech up with a “realistic and conservative” roadmap to halve our oil use in 10 years. We’re happy we’re well on our way with plug-in cars. And no one asked what it would cost.
