Partners Volkswagen AG, Lichtblick SE, SMA Solar Technology AG and the Fraunhofer Institute Wind Energy and Energy System Technology (IWES) have submitted the final report from the INEES research project (Intelligent integration of electric vehicles into the power grid for the provision of system services).

In the third contract awarded to REV by TARDEC, REV is to supply the US Army with two more REV 300ACX V2G-capable electric vehicles for the project, bringing the total to 6. The REV vehicles act as dynamic energy storage devices on the power grid, together acting as an extension of the power plant whenever they are plugged in.

The Audi e-gas plant in the city of Werlte in Lower Saxony ( earlier post ) produces CO 2 neutral-fuel (synthetic methane from water, renewable electricity and CO 2 ); it now also contributes toward stabilizing the public power grid. This therefore considerably increases the overall efficiency of the Power-to-Gas/biogas plant.

In Europe, the Paris Agreement adopted in 2015 has resulted in the acceleration of initiatives to facilitate a low-carbon society, including the aggressive promotion of environmentally-friendly policies aimed at achieving renewable targets. We learned that lesson too well at the start of the pandemic, when demand for toilet paper, disinfecting wipes, masks, and ventilators outstripped the available supply. Clearly, balancing the supply and demand of goods is critical for a stable, normal, functional society.

The energy will be fed into the energy balancing market to balance out short-term fluctuations in the power grid. It provides enough output in mathematical terms to supply 30 four-person households with power for seven days. The partners expect the storage unit to be operational by the end of 2015.
