The C-MAX Energi’s 100 MPGe combined rating beats the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid’s combined EPA rating by 5 MPGe and the Chevrolet Volt’s by 2 MPGe. Ford projects that its Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, due out in early 2013, will deliver 100+ MPGe combined.

Its 2013 C-Max Hybrid, Ford says, will get an EPA city rating of 47 mpg, some 3 mpg higher than the official EPA city rating for the 2012 Toyota Prius V wagon. Toyota might be the current undisputed king of hybrid cars, but that fact isn’t about to stop Ford from going after the Japanese automaker’s crown.

announced that the 2012 Prius Plug-in has been approved for the State of California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program ( CVRP ). The 2012 Prius Plug-in also offers consumers eligibility for the State of California’s HOV lane sticker. While in EV Mode, the Prius Plug-in is rated by the EPA to drive up to 11 miles.

The 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid sedan was never going to match the 50-mpg combined fuel economy rating of this year's mileage champ, the Toyota Prius. When the new Jetta Hybrid was unveiled at January's Detroit Auto Show, VW executives predicted a combined rating around 45 mpg.

I thought my 2013 C-MAX would be a Prius Killer? Based on the advertised EPA estimates, I would have been OK with low 40’s.but 28-33 mpg is not even in the ballpark. Real-world MPG estimates should have been promoted in the mid-30’s. How these MPG estimates made it through Ford corporate is beyond me!
