The wait will soon be over for US customers eager to get their hands on BYD Auto’s e6 electric crossover. BYD will select a specific region in the US and target several hundred e6 cars at government agencies, utilities and even celebrities. A similar strategy will begin in Europe in 2011.

It’s been a long time coming, but China’s BYD Auto will finally stage the European premiere of two of its electric vehicles at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show. The updated 2012 e6-Eco and the independent 4WD dual mode electric SUV S6DM will be introduced at the event as BYD also presents its Three Green [.].

All-electric e6 vehicles made by BYD charge up in Shenzhen, where the cars are used as taxis. BYD is in position to benefit from China’s electric-car subsidies. for instance, plans to start test-marketing an all-electric compact car called the Leaf in China next year, after the model is launched in Japan, the U.S.

As the Chinese government focuses its efforts on energy efficiency, electric cars have taken centre stage at the Shanghai Auto Show. Unsurprisingly, Chinese manufacturer BYD Auto has three electric models on display - the F3DM, F6DM and the e6.
