Now that the 2011 Nissan Leaf and 2011 Chevy Volt have reached showrooms--a handful of them, anyhow--a new crop of electric vehicles will launch into the market for 2011. One of those may be the e6 all-electric crossover built by Chinese manufacturer BYD.

The wait will soon be over for US customers eager to get their hands on BYD Auto’s e6 electric crossover. BYD will select a specific region in the US and target several hundred e6 cars at government agencies, utilities and even celebrities. A similar strategy will begin in Europe in 2011.

It’s been a long time coming, but China’s BYD Auto will finally stage the European premiere of two of its electric vehicles at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show. The updated 2012 e6-Eco and the independent 4WD dual mode electric SUV S6DM will be introduced at the event as BYD also presents its Three Green [.].

Despite a surge in interest, electric cars may remain niche products in the world’s two largest auto markets. Bob Lutz, the outgoing vice chairman of GM, has said the company will produce about 8,000 Chevy Volts in 2011. China overtook the US last year as the largest auto market in the world.
