The research, released on Friday by the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) and named “Estimating US government subsidies to energy sources 2002-2008” , found that fossil fuels benefited from subsidies totalling $72million over this period compared to just $29billion for renewable fuels. By contrast, the hybrid Prius is almost 0.42miles per MJ.

An Argonne researcher reached consensus with researchers from other national labs, universities, the Air Resources Board, automakers, utilities and AD Little to estimate in July 2002 that PHEVs using nighttime power reduce greenhouse gases by 46 to 61 percent. CalCars produced the worlds first plug-in Prius (the PRIUS+) in 2004.

The Think City was short-lived in the States with production halting in 2002 after just 1005 cars had been assembled. Toyota still has not made any money on the Prius. Another point; a Jetta diesel has near the same mileage as a Prius and the Jetta Blue TDI will exceed the Prius. I’m sick of hearing about the Prius….I

BYDs plug-in, called the F3DM (for "dual mode"), goes farther on a single charge - 62 miles - than other electric vehicles and sells for about $22,000, less than the plug-in Prius and much-hyped Chevy Volt are expected to cost when they hit the market in late 2010. "Its a completely different business model."

The Segway Personal Transporter , a two-wheel vehicle that allows people to stand and move around at slow speeds, was released with great fanfare several years ago, but it remains a niche form of transportation.
