They wanted to see whether an electric vehicle could feed electricity back to the grid. The company’s president, Tom Gage , dubbed the system “vehicle to grid” or V2G. And EV owners would become entrepreneurs, selling electricity back to the grid. And indeed, that’s how promoters of vehicle-to-grid technology perceive the EV.

When biogas is produced and used on-site in a fuel cell, fuel utilization or overall energy efficiency can reach 90% and can reduce emissions by more than 90% by weight as compared to the emissions associated with grid electricity generation. The 2015 cost target was $2-$3/gge.

A January 2007 Pacific National Laboratory study shows that if we woke up tomorrow and all our vehicles could plug in, todays grid could support more than three-quarters of them charging at night without building a single power plant. But its monumentally less pollution , even on the national (half-coal) grid.

The Think City was short-lived in the States with production halting in 2002 after just 1005 cars had been assembled. The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. It features ABS brakes, dual airbags, and is designed to meet all European and U.S. safety requirements.

I had surmised this in my 2002 car design thesis [link] even before anyone was talking about plug in series hybrids. Notice in [link] that GM carefully avoids claiming to reduce CO2 by shifting to the grid, but leads people off the track by focusing on smog related issues. GM knows better and guards against making fraudulent claims.
