In 2000, at a trade fair in Germany, an obscure Singapore company called Trek 2000 unveiled a solid-state memory chip encased in plastic and attached to a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connector. But Trek 2000 hardly became a household name. This was granted to Amir Ban, Dov Moran, and Oron Ogdan in November 2000.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has estimated that fuel consumption and emissions of CO 2 from the world’s cars will roughly double between 2000 and 2050. Main additional measures would be full hybridization of a much wider range of vehicles (possibly including, but not requiring, plug-in hybrid vehicle technologies).

From about $69,000 drive-away – $2000 more than our e-2008 as tested – the RWD version has 455km range, 194kW/340Nm, 170kW maximum charging, and mega cabin space for families. I’ve not got a wallbox charger at home, so am reviewing home charging just plugged into a household socket. Sometimes by lots.
