The on-street experience may be too high strung for commuters and there are some drawbacks in terms of battery life that need to be factored in – but we will get to that. That said, the street drive was kept short – we had other stuff to do, check back later this week – so I don’t have a ton of detail to report. Maybe that’s OK.

Taking a step back from a blatant case of chasing the market with the Eletre, the strategy of the “new” Lotus does break sharply from the expectations anyone who knows the company would have had even five years ago. In 364 miles, driving through Southern California and being aided by the automatic engine stop/start, we averaged 24.2 But on a 180-mile all-freeway run with the adaptive cruise control set at 65 mph, we got an impressive 28.8 Our driving never left dry pavement, so we didn’t get to use the four-wheel drive.
