Running on 87 octane, the front wheels (all-wheel drive is not available) are driven through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that has five driver selectable drive modes of Eco, Normal, Sport, Slippery and Snow/Sand. For increased recharging, there is an “L” button on the gear selector wheel.

The MiEV runs on a lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged in seven or so hours on a 240-volt line. The Chevy Volt is going to count on an overnight charge from a standard wall outlet. There are choices for 110 volt versus 220 volt, slow versus quick charges, and solar options. By 2011 look for a larger THINK Ox.

As part of the solution framework, the Israeli government will provide tax incentives to customers, Renault will supply the electric vehicles, and Project Better Place will construct and operate an Electric Recharge Grid across the entire country. Millions of EVs and PHEVs would expand the sale of electricity as an alternative to oil.
