Hub motors integrate a motor directly in the wheel center (either front or rear wheel), in an enclosed system that's independent from the bike chain and pedal drive. Gearless hub motors directly link the motor's stator to the bike axle. Hub motors are relatively affordable, low-maintenance, mass produced by the millions.
