Austin Energy has set up five internal staff efforts to get the City ready for Plug-In electric vehicles. Overall, the utility has created a transportation roadmap and timeline to be ready by 2012 for plug-in electric vehicles when they show up at dealer’s showrooms in the Austin region.

Southern California Edison (SCE) has become the newest addition to the Ford Transit Connect Electric LEAD customer program with a 20 unit order. SCE will take delivery of one of the limited supply of Ford Transit Connect Electric vans to be produced in late 2010 and will receive its remaining 19 vans in 2011.

Unlike NiMH batteries, Li-ion can be tuned to increase power to boost acceleration, or to increase energy to extend driving distance.

Ford Motor Company is tripling production capacity of its electrified vehicle lineup through 2013 to more than 100,000 units, further boosting volumes of its C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid ( earlier post ), which begin production next year. This allows it to run in electric mode before using the gasoline engine.
