The EVSys800 used in the concept is a modular 800-volt drive and consists of SiC power electronics, the electric motor and a reduction gearbox. E-Motor Stator with new braided winding. Essential for this is the electric motor with a new cooling concept and a new winding technology. This saves around 10% copper.

At the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, nanoFlowcell introduced the QUANT 48V electric sports car with a new version of the company’s 48-volt low-voltage drive. A solid aluminium mesh structure replaces the complicated copper windings found in conventional electric motors.

Andy Frank makes the observation that parallel hybrids (Toyota Prius) are cheaper than series hybrids (Chevy Volt). The car will go 30 miles on batteries before the gas engine kicks in and be street-legal. The Chevy Volt is based around a series hybrid design and so is the Karma coming later this year from Fisker Automotive.
