They do not directly compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning and its work-focused features, nor do they compete directly with GM’s hulking Hummer EV. Rivian’s electric adventure vehicles compete in a niche that they pretty much created. They are adventure vehicles meant for enjoying the outdoors, and they are excellent at what they do. .

An American green technology company has developed a hybrid Hummer capable of over 100mpg. Raser Technologies, the company behind the hybrid hummer, claims to have achieved the impossible by greening up one of the cars with the worse environmental record. The Hummer H3E is a plug-in electric vehicle with an onboard range extender.

That capability begins with four individual electric motors, as I experienced on a stirring R1T test in and around New York. The latter figure beats the $112,595 GMC Hummer EV that’s set to reach showrooms in early 2022. The R1T can travel an EPA-rated 314 miles at 70 mpge in combined city and highway use.
