SUV registrations totalled 556,400 units during the month, up by only 0.7% But the most worrying result from June was not the continuous diesel decline, but the slowdown in demand for SUVs. The first is that the poor conditions of the wider market are finally impacting SUVs, which are usually more expensive than regular car types.

Ford has cracked the door wide open for the new Explorer EV to come to Australia following the decision to axe the Escape SUV locally. The Mazda6 is changing name, going electric and will be on-sale in China before the end of 2024. Revealed today at the Beijing auto show, the Mazda EZ-6 will be offered as both a battery electric vehicle and as a plug-in hybrid. The Mazda6 is currently offered for sale in Australia only with ICE powertrains.

Mazda North American Operations released EPA-estimated fuel economy figures for its all-new 2016 Mazda CX-9. Mazda engineers achieved a compression ratio 10.5:1, Front-wheel drive is standard, and Mazda’s predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel drive is optionally available. The 2016 Mazda CX-9 will go on sale in late spring 2016.
