The all-new Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Honda Clarity Electric will make their worldwide debut at the 2017 New York International Auto Show. Honda is positioning the Clarity Electric as “the first” affordable, midsize, five-passenger battery electric vehicle (BEV).

Honda announced that the upcoming Clarity Fuel Cell ( earlier post ) will be joined by two additional electrified variants, the Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, launching in the US in 2017. On a global basis, Honda is aiming to have electrified vehicles account for two-thirds of its vehicles sales around 2030.

In September, GM’s plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt (2,851 units sold) and Toyota’s plug-in hybrid Prius PHV (1,652 units sold) continued to lead sales in the US of plug-in vehicles from major OEMs. The Volt extended range electric vehicle has sold 16,348 units Jan-Sep 2012, up 319.7% in September year-on-year.
