Tesla had the lowest tailpipe CO2 emissions for 2021, a new report published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stated. The EPA released its annual Automotive Trends report, and findings reveal that Tesla is leading the way with the lowest tailpipe CO2 emissions and the highest fuel economy of all large manufacturers.

During the General Motors (GM) 2023 earnings call held this week, CEO Mary Barra said the company will be bringing plugin hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to North America—despite still being committed to going all-electric by 2035. Previously, GM also sold the Chevy Volt PHEV from 2010 to 2019, as well as the Cadillac ELR from 2014 to 2016.

Exceeding its initial program targets, the plug-in 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid ( earlier post ) has earned an electric-mode fuel economy rating of 84 miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe) from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition, the EPA gave the all-new minivan a rating of 10 in its Green Vehicle Guide.

Vehicles approved by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) can be found by going to the fuel-economy offshoot of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website. Interestingly, only General Motors and Tesla managed to hit those caps and they’re some of the biggest winners under the new scheme as well.
