In this case for GRID Alternatives at a low income home in my old neighborhood in Long Beach, California. I was there to help Greenpeace collect petition cards urging President Obama to take a stronger leadership role on climate change and to go to Copenhagen and take personal responsibility for the USA’s role in the talks.

Our neighborhood is called the “Hollywood Riviera&# because of its beautiful hillside homes with idyllic ocean views framed by palm trees. We Californians are very proud of our state’s Global Warming Solutions law, AB 32, that mandates greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced to 1990 levels by the year 2020.

So let me get this straight - while those of us who are trying to lead greener lives, have been cutting our carbon footprints and working with our cities, states and the rest of the USA to help them do likewise, Killer Coal has been playing us for chumps and wiping out all our efforts every single second of every day.

Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse. To end dependence of foreign-sourced fuels and all the political baggage associated with them, to have clean air, and to stop global warming are goals that we can achieve.
