kWh NiMH plug-in hybrid (PHEV) conversion kit that enables all-electric mode driving at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (until the battery pack is depleted) in a converted Prius. A software upgrade, retailing for $2,000 to $2,500, will be made available for sale later this month to new and existing conversion kit customers.

Limited ranged, lead-acid battery based cars, they have nonetheless proven the demand of even less than perfect electric vehicles. Daimler is set to be the first on the street with 100 test vehicle SMARTs in 2008.

Ted Kulongoski behind the wheel of Nissan’s prototype electric vehicle. Mr. Kulongoski wants to make Oregon the go-to state for electric vehicle production. So why has Oregon become a hotbed of activity for electric vehicles all of a sudden? Now add much cheaper materials and NiMH is now obsolete.

But when you do, your car essentially becomes an electric vehicle with a gas-tank backup. The comparison keeps being raised, though studies are conclusive: The "well-to-wheel" emissions of electric vehicles are lower than those from gasoline internal combustion vehicles. You dont have to plug it in.
