Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has developed thermal barriers that help to slow down thermal runaway in Li-ion batteries by increasing resistance to propagation. The new 3D thermal barriers can be used at various positions within the battery and have already proven reliable in their initial series productions, according to the company. Hyundai Motor has started production for the all-new KONA Electric at its Czech Republic-based plant, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC). During the first year, HMMC intends to manufacture more than 20,000 units of KONA Electric. Australia-based hydrogen fuel cell vehicle company H2X Global recently secured a US$57-million deal with US-based firm, Verde Mobility Inc., to fastrack H2X’s delivery of 800 hydrogen-powered vehicles. The deal will finance the delivery of H2X Global’s US$300 million in purchase agreements for vehicles that include the Warrego (utility vehicle), Paroo (garbage/deliver/concrete trucks), and Swan (passenger bus).

HyIron, with the support of the state of Lower Saxony, has commissioned what it says is the world’s largest direct reduction plant for green iron on the site of RWE’s Emsland gas-fired power plant. At the plant, iron ore will be reduced solely with the aid of green hydrogen. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Environment is funding the construction of the plant with €3 million.
