BYD announced the launch of Hong Kong’s first all-electric taxi fleet using the BYD e6 electric cross-over sedan. BYD also announced that the e6 “Taxi version” and e6 “Premier” sedan were now officially on sale in Hong Kong. The 5-passenger BYD e6 offers a range of up to 300 km (186 miles), according to BYD.

The BYD e6 electric vehicle ( earlier post ) will now be available for consumer purchases in China; previously, the e6 was only available for fleet purchases. This is the first domestic all-electric vehicle for sale to consumers in China. BYD e6s have been in operation in government and taxi fleets for nearly 18 months.

In tandem with the handsome growth of the e-two-wheeler and e-three-wheeler segment, the electric passenger vehicle segment, which comprises cars, SUV and MPVs, has also registered record retail sales. The Ioniq 5 accounts for the bulk of the sales, which have given Hyundai a 2% market share.

It might not be going on sale to U.S. consumers, but the BYD e6 will eventually appear in the U.S. Taxi duties seem to be the e6''s true calling, and it''s already operating in China in just such a role. in commercial fleets--perhaps to a taxi rank near you.

BYD, a company struggling to sell its e6 electric crossover in its home market, has decided it won''t be sold at all to private customers in the U.S. Instead, says the ChinaEV blog, the e6 will be a fleet-only vehicle in the U.S, as the company instead concentrates on its electric bus sales in North America.

The rise in sales of electric passenger vehicles is now quite apparent as in the growing number of green-number-plated cars, SUVs and MPVs seen on Indian roads. PCA Automobiles India (Citroen India) has jumped ranks to take fourth position with sales of 1,818 EVs which gives it a market share of 2.28%.
