Real estate is one area where the sector has a significant footprint, and one of the industry’s biggest names is making waves in Detroit’s downtown. General Motors recently announced a move from the Renaissance Center (RenCen), the building it purchased in 1996, to a new location at the Hudson’s Detroit building further north.

General Motors will invest $2.2 billion at its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to produce a variety of all-electric trucks and SUVs. GM’s first all-electric truck will be a pickup with production scheduled to begin in late 2021. Detroit-Hamtramck will be GM’s first fully-dedicated electric vehicle assembly plant.

General Motors (GM) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union have reached a tentative agreement, ending a six-week strike that has cost the automaker billions of dollars in lost production. The deal, which must still be ratified by UAW members, is the final one to be reached between the union and the Detroit Big Three.

General Motors (GM) has resumed production at a Detroit assembly plant, after a fire broke out at the plant earlier this week. GM and the Detroit Fire Department plan to continue investigating the incident, which occurred at a shipping dock at the plant and involved lithium-ion battery materials.
