(TMS) announced that New York City will join the company’s US Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicle (PHV) demonstration program. Five new Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles (PHVs) will be used on city streets as part of Toyota’s partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

is adding a Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid demonstration vehicle (PHV) to the WeCar program for Yahoo! Toyota is delivering more than 160 Prius PHV vehicles across the United States as part of a demonstration program. For longer distances, the Plug-In Hybrid vehicle reverts to conventional hybrid mode, operating as a regular Prius.

The partners revealed the final conclusions collected from this large-scale demonstration, in which approximately 70 units of the Prius PHV were provided to Strasbourg. Toyota launched the Prius Plug-in in Japan at the beginning of 2012, followed by introductions in North America and Europe.
