They had some inverter issues in the 3rd Generation Prius in which the hybrid technology changed, but Toyota issued a recall for that. There are also videos on Youtube where people change the pack the DIY way or the individual modules, but be aware to only buy individual modules from a trusted source.

I converted my 1992 Toyota pickup to all electric on Sept 2011. I have driven it to work and back 40 miles every day for the past 6 months. I have put over 6000 EV miles on it now. I have continuously been making efficiency tweaks to it. Check out the improvements: Initially 118Amp draw at 50mph.

Required reading: Bill Moore's EVWorld review and Martin Zimmerman's LA Times piece about their test drives of the Toyota Plug-in Prius and the hydrogen fuel cell Highlander FCHV. Third party converters have spent time and resources tweaking their plug-in hybrids to meet ARB testing written with gasoline-only hybrids in mind.

I am interested in using a forklift motor to convert to an EV. Is a Porsche 924 an easy car to convert? An owner of a forklift wreckers told me that a 24V electric palletjack motor would be good for a small car. He said that he would sell me a motor that can lift about 3.5 He said I shouldn't overvolt this motor. or front-engined FWD?

We Promote PHEV Conversion Programs: First CalCars in 2004, then a number of aftermarket companies, have converted over 200 cars — at first most were for fleets, but more and more are going to individual owners. Both Toyota and Ford are now producing a few prototype conversions of their own Priuses and Escapes for research purposes.)
