Flash Drive: 2023 Toyota Prius Prime PHEV Plug-in Hybrid Technology in an All-New Package Toyota is taking the lead suggesting how you should drive a plug-in hybrid. The all-new 2023 Prius Prime gets two less miles per gallon in hybrid mode than the 2022 model, but the all-electric driving range has increased substantially.

The Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, unveiled at the 2016 New York International Auto Show in March ( earlier post ), features a larger 8.8 kWh battery pack for twice the electric range of its predecessor, as well as some enhancements to its powertrain, including a Toyota-first dual motor generator drive system.

Its 42-mile EV range, its 600-mile total range and relatively low price tag have made the PHEV an instant smash hit.

Most of the vehicles debuting at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show were powered by some sort of electricity. Not all were, of course, as there is still plenty of interest around gasoline-propelled cars, SUVs and trucks. A stunning electric drop-top. liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine that now pumps-out 195 horsepower.

Based on Toyota’s full hybrid technology, the new PHV will come equipped with a lithium-ion battery, extending the vehicle’s range in electric vehicle mode. In the future, the PHV will be the perfect complement to Prius. The first wave of PHVs will reach Strasbourg in late 2009.
