The BMW Mini E has hit the streets. Barely one year ago, word surfaced that an electric Mini was in the works. In June about 500 cars were placed in consumer and fleet hands in Los Angeles and New York and New Jersey for what BMW calls a " field trial." They produced a small fleet for the Munich Olympics in 1972.

The BMW Brilliance plug-in hybrid concept. have presented a concept plug-in hybrid sedan based on the long wheelbase version of the BMW 5 Series Sedan. When running purely on electrical power, it is possible to travel for up to 75 kilometers (47 miles) at a constant speed of 60 km/h (37 mph). Click to enlarge.

The ultimate goal is the concept of a Megacity Vehicle, the BMW i3 that meets the demands of a sustainable mobility solution for congested urban areas. Ongoing field tests involving more than 600 MINI E cars, including 450 in the US, have already provided knowledge about the demands on future electrically powered production vehicles.

The ultimate goal is the concept of a Megacity Vehicle (MCV) that meets the demands of a sustainable mobility solution for congested urban areas. The feedback from customers testing the MINI E and the BMW ActiveE will be fed directly into series production of the MCV, which the BMW Group will be launching under a new sub-brand in 2013.

With support from Scottish and Southern Energy, a fleet of prototype Ford Focus BEVs will be used by both the energy company and evaluation drivers based in Hillingdon, Middlesex. MINI E Research Project. Funding provided by the Technology Strategy Board is supporting a 12 month field trial of 40 MINI E models.
