ICL briefing paper estimates that 52% of all small particle pollution from road transport comes from tires and brakes

Green Car Congress

Six million tonnes of tire wear particles (TWP) are released globally each year, and in London alone, 2.6 Despite this, research on the environmental and health impacts of tire wear has been neglected in comparison to the research and innovations dedicated to tackling fuel emissions. Study measures the effect of regional change in clouds caused by ships’ emissions; masking GHG warming

Green Car Congress

This puffy line is not just exhaust from the engine, but a change in the clouds that’s caused by small airborne particles of pollution. Small particles in exhaust from burning fossil fuels creates “seeds” on which water vapor in the air can condense into cloud droplets. This makes the clouds brighter, or more reflective.

Ricardo and Univ. of Brighton working on advanced combustion system for heavy-duty vehicles; CoolR features recuperated split-cycle with isothermal compression using cryogenic injection

Green Car Congress

The recuperated engine uses isothermal compression via cryogenic injection to enable significant exhaust to compressed gas heat transfer. Recuperator to transfer heat from exhaust gas to compressed air. A recuperated combustion engine transfers exhaust heat to the working gas at the end of compression and at constant volume.

CPT, TU Wien study finds 48V mild diesel hybrid cuts engine-out NOx 9%, 4.5% fuel economy improvement

Green Car Congress

The cost effectiveness of this approach is further underscored by its impact on lean NO x trap (LNT) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment systems, which have less raw NOx emissions to process, potentially allowing for a reduction in exhaust system cost and complexity, and a longer service life. —Paul Bloore.

Audi testing find e-ethanol and e-diesel produced by Joule often perform better than conventional counterparts

Green Car Congress

During each of up to 3,000 revolutions per minute in the research engine, a minute amount of fuel shoots into the glass cylinder, is compressed and ignited, and the exhaust gas then expelled. Fuel specifications are not publicly available yet, nor are emissions results and comparisons.
