Researchers from the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel have found that considerable quantities of the greenhouse gas methane escape uncontrolled into the water from abandoned oil and gas wells in the North Sea. On the basis of investigations directly on the seafloor it was possible to determine the amount of escaping gas.

The nickel foam electrode was best at letting the bubbles escape, but it had a significantly lower surface area than the other two electrodes, making it less productive. Wiley said commercial producers of water electrolyzers may be able to make improvements in the structure of their electrodes based on what his team has learned.

The scope of Ford’s recent rubber research, which was funded in part by grants from the United Soybean Board (USB), included the use of soy fillers (flour, meal) as well as soy oils. The new 2011 Ford Explorer will become the 23 rd model to feature soy foam.
