Volkswagen is the first automaker to transport most of its new vehicles overseas using low-emission LNG ships. On the return trip, the LNG ships will transport new vehicles destined for Europe. Only unavoidable emissions are offset by climate protection measures.

Mercedes-Benz delivered five eCitaro buses to Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG); immediately afterward the transport company ordered another 15 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro as well as 24 Citaro G hybrid buses. With nearly 350 buses and trams, Bremer Straßenbahn AG transports almost 300,000 passengers a day.

The EPA last week announced stricter emissions standards for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, such as trucks and buses, for model years 2027 to 2032. Like the new emissions standards for passenger cars recently confirmed, these rules do not mandate EVs, but do set much tougher emissions targets that will likely lead to more EV sales.

Last week, the European Commission adopted a package of proposals to make the EU’s climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels (Fit for 55). As a result, all new cars registered as of 2035 will be zero-emission.
