[ Slow Level 1 charging [ 11 ] should be used to recharge PHEVLER batteries whenever possible. PHEVLERs use liquid fuel occasionally when the vehicle needs to travel distances beyond its electric driving range.

The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix.
