Plug-in cars are inevitable. Nissan appears intent on opening up a market for mid-price range electric cars within two years. The other carmakers domestic and foreign have less firm but well press-released plans for plug-ins. President Obama has stated a commitment to 1 million plug-in cars by 2015. Here's my June column.

In my rear view mirror I watched a Los Angeles Sheriff’s car pull out of the Chevron and turn on both its blue and red flashing lights to pursue me down Ventura Boulevard. And early results suggest a range of 175 to 200 miles, although I’ve never gotten close to running out of power. Even I was surprised. Complaints?

What happens when we plug in 1.2-megawatt So we set out to show the industry what needed to be done so that the Flying Js, the Chevrons, the BPs of the world would understand that this needs to be built and that they had some support in doing so.
