Chevron Technology Ventures, a division of Chevron USA Inc. that identifies, evaluates and demonstrates emerging technologies, launched a demonstration project to test the viability of using solar energy to produce oil. The resulting steam is injected into oil reservoirs to increase oil production.

Under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), crude oil producers may generate credits for oil that has been produced using innovative methods and delivered to California refineries for processing. Seneca Resource Corporation (Seneca) has applied for LCFS credits for producing crude oil using solar generated electricity.

Chevron Corporation has sanctioned development of its $4-billion Big Foot project in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. Big Foot will be Chevron’s sixth operated facility in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and located approximately 225 miles (360 km) south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in water depths of 5,200 feet (1,600 m).

Chevron Corporation has sanctioned development of the Jack/St. The initial development of the Chevron project will require an investment of approximately $7.5 It will include three subsea centers tied back to a hub production facility with a capacity of 170,000 barrels of oil and 42.5 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
