On the second half of the table, two more small Chinese EVs are on the rise, with Great Wall's Ora Black Cat jumping three positions, to #14, while the Chery eQ climbed to #18, and in #19 we now have the much antecipated Volkswagen ID.3, 3, that should jump a few more positions in December, possibly ending the year in #15.

Another Chinese manufacturer, Great Wall Motor, which is based in Hebei, unveiled its all-electric car at the show - the GWKulla. Chery Automobile also took the opportunity to debut a concept battery car - the Riichi M1. However, it wasn’t just the home-grown acts that took the spotlight at the event.

Company representative Dave Hurst believes that Toyota, General Motors and Ford will together account for three-quarters of the world market but adds that emerging Chinese manufacturers including Chery and BYD Auto will be an emerging market force.

In the US, Chrysler and General Motors fell into bankruptcy; while in Japan even its major automakers have been left reeling from significant profit falls. With few of us having the cash or credit to buy an expensive new addition, the bottom seems to have fallen out of the automotive industry which has been plunged into crisis.
