On the second half of the table, two more small Chinese EVs are on the rise, with Great Wall's Ora Black Cat jumping three positions, to #14, while the Chery eQ climbed to #18, and in #19 we now have the much antecipated Volkswagen ID.3, 3, that should jump a few more positions in December, possibly ending the year in #15.

As the Chinese government focuses its efforts on energy efficiency, electric cars have taken centre stage at the Shanghai Auto Show. Unsurprisingly, Chinese manufacturer BYD Auto has three electric models on display - the F3DM, F6DM and the e6. Chery Automobile also took the opportunity to debut a concept battery car - the Riichi M1.

The Wuling Mini EV secured the Silver medal, beating BAIC's EU-Series yearly score (111k) and becoming the Chinese EV with highest score in one year, while also winning the Rookie of the Year title, ahead of heavyweights like the Tesla Model Y or VW ID.3. In December, the Climber of the Month was the VW ID.3, But more on that later.

Interest in electric cars is surging: •Nearly 52,000 people were wait-listed as of mid-April for General Motors’ electric model, the Volt, due in November. In China, leading automakers BYD and Chery have announced plans to roll out their own electric models within the next two years. Chinese green-car subsidies on hold.
