Volkswagen brought the new CrossBlue Coupé plug-in hybrid sporty mid-size SUV show car, introduced in April at Auto Shanghai 2013 ( earlier post ), to a media event in Berlin for its European premiere. The Group also is using the New Small Family (NSF) kit; the MLB (Modular longitudinal kit); and the MSB (Modular standard kit).

Here goes (in no particular order): Things That Went Well During the Conversion The 914 AC kit from Electro Automotive is a good one. The conversion car came from camp914.com This made the car much easier to drive (similar to an ICE vehicle). The critical parts needed to complete the car took eight months for delivery.

I drove the electric 914 back out to Camp914 where I originally purchased the car and drove it away as a gasoline vehicle. Overall, the car handled the freeway and hills well. Two things have definitely made the car more fun to drive. I've learned some of the tricks to driving the car. The DC-DC converter is still working fine, so the car is actually quite convenient to drive. I haven't touched my gasoline car in two weeks now. The biggest trick involves starting from a dead stop.

Note: the kit instructions mention that the bolts that tie the motor mount in the kit to the front Porsche motor mount are 3 1/2 inches long; however, I think this is a typo because I had to go back and purchase 2 1/2 inch bolts because the 3 1/2 ones were almost exactly one inch too long.

Today, I installed the last kit piece that I have from Electro Automotive: the motor controller wiring harness. Technically, if I shorted some of the terminals on the top block and added the 144V of batteries (along with a 12V accessory battery), I should be able to drive the car. This made the installation much easier.
