PSI team demonstrates direct hydrocarbon fuel production from water and CO2 by solar-driven thermochemical cycles

Green Car Congress

Solar-driven thermochemical cycles offer a direct means of storing solar energy in the chemical bonds of energy-rich molecules. By utilizing a redox material such as ceria (CeO 2 ) as a reactive medium, STCs can produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide—i.e., syngas—from water and CO 2. Click to enlarge. —Lin et al.

New flexible MOF for enhanced adsorbed natural gas storage on vehicles

Green Car Congress

If, however, a responsive adsorbent could be designed to expand to store a high density of CH 4 at 35–65 bar, and to collapse to push out all adsorbed CH 4 at a pressure near 5.8 Last year, however, a study by UC Berkeley’s Berend Smit found that rigid MOFs have a limited capacity to store methane.
