While there is value in writing about a luxurious two-door coupe planned for very limited production, we’re really just taking this news as an opportunity to run a photo of the perpetually gob-smacking Lexus LC 500. Hardtop versions adopt the convertible’s underfloor braces while also adding a carbon fiber roof. And he’s right.

The Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive features an Atkinson cycle combustion engine mated to an advanced high-energy battery pack.

The award program honored Toyota’s use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) inner panels on the Prius Prime liftgate and Lexus LC 500 side doors and luggage hatch. The Lexus LC registered a 47% weight savings on its side door and 40% reduction on its luggage hatch, compared to conventional steel structures.

The Lexus LC rides on an aging platform, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it to drive it. Well, the much-maligned older version of the Lexus/Toyota infotainment system might give it away. Not only that but dropping the top of this Lexus doesn’t result in a lot of compromises. At least this Lexus is aging gracefully.
