Flash Drive: 2023 Toyota Prius Prime PHEV Plug-in Hybrid Technology in an All-New Package Toyota is taking the lead suggesting how you should drive a plug-in hybrid. The all-new 2023 Prius Prime gets two less miles per gallon in hybrid mode than the 2022 model, but the all-electric driving range has increased substantially.

The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.

A steady road warrior Clean Fleet Report was in the Taos SEL 4Motion for a week, spending most of our time on Southern California freeways. In addition, we are often invited to manufacturer events highlighting new vehicles or technology. In 371 miles we averaged 28.6 mpg, but in a 99-mile highway run at 65 mph, we averaged 34.3
