And there are zero emissions if you recharge a scooter’s batteries from a sustainable source. It means you can travel, should you wish, a substantial distance between charges. Or, more likely, if your ‘last mile’ commutes are short, you may need only recharge once a week. E-scooters should be a force for good.

At least GM sent this nifty printed banner explaining all about the new J1772 industry standard recharging plug. But what did surprise this reporter was the absence of Honda, Toyota, BYD, and a lot of the other players listed on the Plug-In America car tracker. Their chargers were all over the exhibit floor charging every EV there.

The gamble is that Nissan could grab the EV market and dominate it until BYD (China) enters the U.S., Battery-powered cars may be the wave of the future, but costs are high; the recharging infrastructure isn’t there, and hefty government subsidies are needed to make electric vehicles competitive. The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
